Jamaica Fish & Golf Vacations Sandals Jamaica Resorts

We recently had the opportunity to visit Jamaica and experience a taste of what Sandals has to offer for a couples-only Fins & Skins Adventure. The short drive from Montego Bay was well worth the time, as it has been more than a decade since we were in Jamaica. So many changes; the people as wonderful as always; so laid back - it's really great ! We forgot about, "No Problem !" and "Don't Worry, Be Happy!".

It is difficult to explain, but as soon as your driver brings you through Sandals grand entrance, it really feels like you have entered a quaint Mediterranean village. The Sandals Dunn's River Golf Resort & Spa is nestled between the lush St. Ann mountains and the Caribbean Sea - a perfect fishing and golf destination. Here you will discover a veritable Eden of your own, where the air is fragrant with jasmine, and the tropical gardens are overflowing. This is a private sanctuary that's not only enchanting but also breathtakingly beautiful. We also had a chance to visit Sandals Ocho Rios Golf Resort, just down the road. Both resorts offer a variety of activities, and there is, of course, simple relaxation. Whatever you fancy, the Sandals resorts have it all. We wanted to hit the golf course right away. Both resorts use the Sandals Golf & Country Club, but the Dunn's River Resort is much closer. Regardless, this golf club is the most elite championship course on the island. Located atop the hills of Ocho Rios - over 750 feet in height -the Sandals Golf & Country Club is an all-inclusive feature at all six pf Sandals Jamaica resorts. With rolling fairways, constant breezes and a plantation clubhouse that is unique it its own right, you can easily understand how this club is recognized as one of the most beautiful courses on the island. The greens are smaller than what most golfers are probably used to, but they were in "mint" condition. You just have to play a little more "target golf". If you have visited other Caribbean golf courses, you already know that many have trouble with their greens. Not here ! By the way, if you have an all-inclusive package at any of the Sandals resorts, you are welcome to play as often as you like, and courtesy transfers to the Club are provided, of course.

The beach has all the activities most folks want: sailing, snorkeling, parasailing, and many more. As far as fishing goes, it's big game fishing in big boats. There is no reef fishing in the immediate area, as they save that for the avid dive and snorkel groups. Even though you can enjoy big-game fishing year round, it is somewhat seasonal. The slowest time of year is usually in the fall, but by Christmas things pick up as wahoo, tuna, dorado, kingfish and marlin move in. The great news - the "blue water" (good fishable water) is within a mile of the beach - meaning less running time and more time to fish. In Jamaican waters, the marlin are much smaller and weigh in at 175-300 lb.   Occasionally a 500 to 600 lb'er is caught. The charters are not fancy; they're not meant to be - it's just friendly, relaxing, laid back and informal - the way it should be. A full day rate is $ 500- $ 600 US depending on the boat. Half days are approx. $ 300.   If there are two or three couples aboard, it is cheaper than a similar outing in the Florida Keys. There are many boats available for charter near Ocho Rios. Here are a few of our favorites: Renegade is a 42' Bertram, Triple B a 37' Hatteras, Sister ships Sunfisher and Kingfisher both 38' Bertrams, Breann is a 31' Bertram.

So, you have the fishing and golf covered, but what about the rest ? At Sandals, it really is perfect. Guests can enjoy Jamaica's spectacular sun-drenched beaches and all their serene beauty. Meals are excellent. And tropical drinks - so many to choose and all so tasty and refreshing ! Whether your day includes fishing, and / or a round of golf, when it's time to relax, you will be able to look out on the endless wonder that is the Caribbean Sea. You will be awed by this exotic and soothing paradise. Everything happens at your own pace - no rush, no schedules to keep. Remember, this is Jamaica ! Cares and stress melt away as you enjoy the fabulous white sand beaches, crystal-clear water, brilliant sunshine, clear skies and warm hospitality.
