Salt Water Fishing (call it, "Fishing the Flats")

One of the most unique and distinguished fishing destinations in the world lies just minutes from our homes on the southwest coast of Florida. Fishing the flats and backcountry from Boca Grande and Charlotte Harbor is a testament to the past, a view of Florida as it might have looked one hundred years earlier. Fishing deep in the backcountry you'll see miles of mangrove trees, large expanses of grass flats and maybe an old fish house or two. You'll see oyster bars, sand bars and areas that look so fishy you just can't resist a cast into them. And rightfully so! These are the homes and hangouts of some of the best game fish Florida has to offer. Snook, redfish and spotted trout inhabit these waters, with an occasional tarpon laid-up in spring and summer. And, under the right conditions, they can be sight-fished. They can be seen cruising under the mangroves, schooled-up in a pothole or moving across a grass flat in water so shallow that they'll "wake", their backs breaking the surface of the water. Redfish will be feeding off the bottom of a grass flat in water so skinny that their tails can be seen above the surface as the fish grubs for small crabs and shrimp. Have you ever seen a school of big snook bust on a school of baitfish? It's not for the timid. Even the most seasoned anglers know that, from time to time, when the cast has to be right, your knees go a little weak.

From mid May thru July, the almighty tarpon will be rolling right off of our beaches. Schools of from 50 to 100 or more of these creatures will move within casting distance and will usually inhale that live bait, artificial lure or fly when presented properly. These fish average 100 pounds and are not uncommon in the 150-pound range. Tarpon in the 170 to 180 pound class are landed here every season. Try that on a fly rod! And let's not forget about the tussle of a 10' bull shark! Fish southwest Florida's flats and backcountry with the top fishing Captains in Florida including TV Host Henry Waszczuk, (click here for more details). We specialize in light tackle fishing in the flats and backcountry of Charlotte Harbor and Boca Grand for tarpon, snook, redfish, trout even shark.

Booking a trip is easy. Just call the number below or just click on E-mail. Send your contact information, the dates you have available and any special requests. A day on the water includes all tackle, fishing license and cooler with ice. You will need a hat, sunscreen, polarized sunglasses and food and drinks for the day. We also are the top organizer for larger parties and corporate trips.

Reservations are required. From $125. Per person, dependant on the # of anglers per boat.

    Eco Tours

Perhaps the most significant factor contributing to the region's excellent fishing reputation are the vast tracks of fresh and salt-water wetlands protected by state and/or federal laws. The Charlotte Harbor - Pine Island Sound area is one of the largest estuaries in Florida, has relatively clean water that supports extensive grass beds and stands of mangroves. Several large sections of this estuarine complex are designated as state aquatic preserves and there are strict regulations that protect the water quality and marine life in the system. You and up to five more people can take our Eco Tours where you can appreciate the animals and wildlife first hand. Various birds include osprey, eagles, pelicans, herons and egrets. Besides seeing fish that weigh as much as you, you'll see dolphins and manatees so close you can practically touch them.
