just a few minutes south of North Bay, ON, the Clear Springs
Golf Club offers the best of both golfing worlds. The front
nine has a links-style look and feel to it - wide fairways,
long grass skirting the fairways, and firm undulating greens.
The 421-yard 7th hole features an island green and demands a
precise long iron 2nd shot or forces players to lay up short
of the hazard, effectively guaranteeing at least a bogey. |

back nine at Clear Springs GC is a more traditional North American
layout featuring narrow, tree-lined fairways, strategically
placed bunkers, out of bounds, strategically placed water hazards,
and smaller, undulating greens. Accuracy off the tee, shot shape
and placement, a deft touch on the greens - rather than sheer
length - are paramount to making pars. |

Clear
Springs GC is superbly conditioned, well maintained and boasts
exceptional greens which hold approach shots well, putt true
and are surrounded by trouble - water hazards, bunkers, trees,
long rough, ravines and, ocassionally, expanses of Northern
Ontario wilderness. On our tour of Blue Sky Region golf courses,
the Clear Springs Golf Club immediately became a personal favourite.
Largely underrated and widely overlooked, this is a "must-play"
course. |
